How Do You Deep Clean A House?

HOW DO YOU DEEP CLEAN A HOUSE

It’s that time of the year again. You might have already noticed your neighbors preparing for their big spring clean, getting ready to dust away the cobwebs and shine every surface until it sparkles.

You’re probably thinking you better get on with a bit of spring cleaning yourself. But for some, this all begs the question – how do you deep clean a house?

Where do you start? What about if you have pets? Do you really have to give up your entire weekend for the foreseeable future until it’s all done?

We’re here to help you with these three questions, and we’ll even share some useful tips along the way. You don’t have to be Marie Kondo or Mrs. Hinch to get down and dirty with a dirty house. Just follow our advice, and you’ll be house proud in no time.

How do you deep clean a house with pets?

One of the major concerns for potential pet owners is just how dirty animals can be and the effect that this can have on your house. This is especially true if you’re living in rented accommodation, where your security deposit could be withheld for cleaning charges.

Sharing your home with your pets doesn’t have to mean living in squalor, however, and there are a few ways you can successfully deep clean a house with pets.

One of them, unfortunately, is to get a really good vacuum cleaner. They don’t come cheap, but they’re seriously worth it if you can afford one as the higher-quality vacuums are able to more effectively pick up pet hair and dirt due to super-strong suction and good brush action.

Even with regular bathing, pets can sometimes cause a certain odor to become noticeable in your home, so during a deep clean, you should focus on deodorizing any areas that need it.

Furniture and upholstery can be spritzed with fabric cleaner or freshener, or you can use natural alternatives like baking soda, which works great when sprinkled over rugs and floors.

You should also prioritize any areas where your pet goes to poop, making sure things like litter trays have been changed and thoroughly cleaned before you replace them.

How do I deep clean my kitchen?

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and it’s where you’ll spend hours cooking up delicious meals for yourself and your friends or family. So, when spring cleaning time comes around, your kitchen is one of the rooms in your house that will be in most need of a deep clean.

Once you’ve gathered everything you need, follow these steps to deep clean your kitchen:

Clear Away Clutter

First, spend 10-15 minutes clearing away all the clutter in your kitchen, including dirty dishes and anything else that doesn’t have a designated place to live.

Walls

Dust your walls and then, with a sponge and some mildly soapy water, wipe them down to clean. Make sure to squeeze out the sponge so that you don’t leave watermarks as it dries.

Sink

Clean your stainless steel sink by coating with bicarbonate of soda and scrubbing with an old toothbrush before rinsing. If you have a ceramic sink, use washing up liquid and water for a first clean, then spray with a mild bleach-based solution and allow it to sit before scrubbing.

Dishwasher

It may be an appliance for cleaning, but you’ll need to clean your dishwasher during a kitchen deep clean to ensure it’s doing its job effectively.

Soak the filter in warm soapy water before scrubbing any dirt off, and run an empty cycle with an added cup of white vinegar. Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on the base and run another cycle after leaving to soak overnight.

Oven

Place a paste made of water and bicarbonate of soda on the inside of the oven and leave overnight. Spray with a bottle of bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar and leave for around four hours, then scrub to clean.

Hob

  • Glass hob: Use a non-abrasive, cream cleaner and allow it to sit for 10 minutes before wiping off with a microfibre cloth.
  • Electric hob: Follow the same instructions as above but remove and rinse hotplates (if removable) to clean. You can use a stronger cleaning solution for the hotplates.
  • Gas hob: Remove gas rings and soak in detergent with warm water. Use a damp cloth to clean the surfaces and the burners. Coat hob in a cream cleaner and leave for 10 minutes, then scrub with a soft sponge or microfiber cloth.

Fridge

Empty your fridge and soak shelves, trays, and attachments. Disinfect the fridge’s interior then wipe with a damp cloth. Leave a cup of bicarbonate of soda in the fridge to deodorize.

Cabinets

Empty your cabinets and dust or vacuum the insides, then use a mixture of warm water and washing up liquid to wipe down the inner and outer surfaces. Allow the cupboards to air-dry.

What is the fastest way to deep clean a house?

Cleaning your house is an unavoidable necessity, but it’s also something that most people would rather not spend too much of their time doing, leading many to ask the question of: how can I get the house clean faster? Is there a way to speed things up?

Fortunately, yes there is. So fear not, those who are new to cleaning, which is basically anyone who’s freshly moved out of home, or those who’ve gone away to college. The fact is, some people are never taught the best way to clean, hence why articles like this one exist.

If you want to clean your house but you’re in a rush and you’re not quite sure where to start, here are some handy tips that should help you get the job done quicker.

  • Clean the entire house instead of splitting it up and doing one room at a time. That way, you can complete one task throughout the house, for example, dusting or vacuuming, rather than having to put away/get the vacuum out again for every room.
  • Keep everything you’re using together in a caddy or similar piece of equipment so that you can easily reach for things as and when you need them to save time.
  • Work your way from the top to the bottom of your house, making sure to dust higher areas before bothering with the surfaces below, as otherwise, you’ll find your hard work ruined by tumbling dust bunnies and other bits of dirt as you clean the tops.
